ABOUT THE ROLE
The Transformation Project Manager is accountable for the day-to-day execution, governance, and operational anchoring of Leroy Merlin South Africa’s Strategy. The role ensures that the plan moves from strategy to disciplined execution, embedded into business routines, store practices, and management cadences. The role does not own strategy design, but owns execution clarity, progress tracking, escalation, and sustainability. This position operates at the centre of LMSA’s transformation agenda, working transversally across functions and stores, with direct exposure to Exco and senior leadership.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Transformation Plan Execution & Operational Anchoring
Apply and operate the Transformation execution framework across the business.
Ensure strategic priorities are clearly reflected in key events or milestones, with identified pilots, timelines, and expected outcomes.
Ensure transformation is reflected in Store routines, Management rhythms and Cross-functional processes
Monitor how strategy is applied in day-to-day operations and management routines.
Progress Tracking, Visibility & Governance
Maintain real-time visibility of Strategy execution status.
Build and maintain simple, readable dashboards for Exco and leadership.
Track progress through regular feedback sessions with pilots, milestone reviews, risk and dependency tracking.
Ensure delays, risks, and misalignment are surfaced early.
Transversal Coordination
Coordinate sponsors, pilots, and operational teams across functions.
Support cross-functional alignment across the organization on execution topics.
Act as the single point of orchestration, not decision-maker.
Escalate when execution stalls or decisions are required.
Transformation plan Steering Committee Ownership
Be accountable for the preparation, organisation and follow-up of one Transformation Steering Committee.
Prepare steering topics in collaboration with Exco sponsors.
Structure agendas around decisions required, progress vs commitments, risks and trade-offs.
Ensure decisions are clearly documented and followed through
Early Warning & Organisational Readiness
Maintain a transversal, high-level view of the organisation to identify execution risks and weak signals.
Identify execution fatigue, misalignment between strategy and operations along with capacity or capability gaps.
Flag “weak signals” early and propose corrective actions.
Transformation Communication & Change Support
Contribute to making Transformation understandable, concrete, and practical.
Support internal communication by translating progress into simple messages, contributing to internal transformation communication by preparing and delivering presentations on progress and execution and highlighting tangible wins and learnings.
Ensure transformation is visible, not abstract.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Business Administration, Strategic Change Management or related field (essential).
5+ years experience leading large-scale transformation or change management projects.
Proven track record working in retail or operational environments, with direct exposure to multi-level execution.
Strategic execution mindset with operational anchoring.
Stakeholder management and transversal coordination.
Risk identification and escalation discipline.
Governance and steering committee preparation.
Transformation communication and storytelling skills.
Excellent structuring, synthesis, and problem‑solving skills with a focus on execution discipline.
Clear, confident communicator (written and verbal) able to simplify complex information.
